What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a national program introduced in 2023, to help make dental care more affordable for Canadians without private insurance. The CDCP covers part of the cost for common dental services, x-rays, and patients may only need to pay a small portion at the clinic, depending on their household income.

  • Canadian resident with no private dental insurance
  • Household income under $90,000
  • Filed your tax return for the previous year
  • Hold a valid Disability Tax Credit (if applying under disability criteria)

  • Adults aged 18–64 without dental insurance
  • Adults 65+
  • Eligible individuals with a Disability Tax Credit certificate

CDCP FAQs

You’ll need your SIN, proof of income (latest tax return), and confirmation you don’t have private insurance. If applying with disability criteria, you’ll also need a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate.

Depending on your family income, CDCP covers 100%, 60%, or 40% of approved dental fees. We’ll help you understand any costs before treatment begins.

Once you apply, CRA usually processes applications within a few weeks.
